This morning I realized I had a little bit of time before my Granny’s appointment, I decided to squeeze in a quick run. I headed down the road and hit the local well worn track. On lap 7 I noticed a young girl standing off to the side with what appeared to be her grandmother. I figured she was waiting until I passed to start running. On my 8th lap I noticed she was still standing there so I slowed down and asked “Do you want to run with me?” With a grin she nodded yes. I had a brief moment where I imagined us running side by side, me coaching her along, acting as a mentor.
That moment ended quickly as she TOOK OFF at a sprint. As I gasped to keep up with her I got to thinking SHE could teach ME something….something about running with abandon. Not running with the intent on saving energy for later, or running a certain distance or pace, but instead just running to run.
For that brief time I left all my plans behind and just ran. I didn’t worry about form, didn’t worry about running out of steam, just reveled in the feeling of my body running.
And I felt free.

That’s a great feeling isn’t it?!?!?!?
Love it!!!
Another proof, that running is so much more than just running!! Love it!
Reminds me of a Friends episode – Phoebe was always embarrassing Rachel in the park because she didn’t care what she looked like. It was ridiculous until Rachel tried it too, then it was so much fun!
I LOVE that episode. Sorry, I’m a F*R*I*E*N*D*S fanatic!
hope it helped get some energy out. i did the same thing this afternoon. let it all go. and it really is cool to watch the young ones just “let go.” ah, to be young again and carefree.
LOVE!!
So liberating to just let go. I can imagine how great that felt with all that you’ve been coping with
Kids are so funny – running is all or nothing! But they run for the pure joy of it which we adults sometimes forget.
I am so glad you had this moment! You deserve it!!!!
What a cool story! Little kids are amazing reminders to live in the moment. My favorite kid things to do are ride my bike, jump on trampolines, and lay on the floor! And laugh like crazy
I love having runs like that where you feel free & you run just to run. Great job!
Love this and wonder if we should all do it more often.
