Waltz across Texas

My sweet Granny Rose loves to waltz. The cancer has taken away her ability to waltz, and often even her ability to stand unassisted. So when my grandfather helps her stand up he wraps his arms around her and starts singing “Waltz across Texas” to her.

“When we dance together my world’s in disguise it’s a fairyland tale that come true
And when you look at me with those stars in your eyes
I could waltz across Texas with you
Waltz across Texas with you in my arms waltz across Texas with you
Like a storybook ending I’m lost in your charms
And I could waltz across Texas with you
My heartaches and troubles are just up and gone the moment that you come in view
And with your hand in mine dear I could dance on and on
And I could waltz across Texas with you”

Their love is still going strong after 53 years of marriage.

I remember my mother being like this with my father when he had terminal cancer. It was the moment that taught my own husband and me the true meaning of having that best friend as your spouse. There will be moments you do not get along, but at the end of the day you are always best friends. My mother would help my father bathe, clean up his bed or the couch when he had accidents, and help him when he had the seizures that came along with his cancer. She was amazing. My father was 65 when he left this world and that was in 2007. It still sits on my shoulders and I will always miss him. I am sorry you are having to see this. Cancer sucks. When my father passed it was the moment I made my running into something else. I stopped worrying about winning and started thinking about how I could help others who had cancer. That is what I do now with my running. Many hugs to you.
