The best pancakes in the world and kissing fish (rnr sea part II)

Part I HERE

Thursday morning we asked our hotel for breakfast recommendations and the front desk pointed us in the direction of Portage Bay Cafe. I will be forever grateful for that suggestion because that is where I had THE BEST PANCAKES IN THE WORLD. Ok, so I’m the only one that voted in the pancake election but gosh darn I was A-M-A-Z-E-D.

The Vegan Banana pancakes rocked my world and I’m a pancake snob. They had an almost crisp exterior while still retaining the soft pillowy interior I crave in a pancake. The were filling without being dense. They had flavor so no syrup was needed (although that hazelnut spread was tasty). I only finished about one of them, they filled me up without bogging me down. Did I mention I loved them? Seriously-check them out if you’re ever in Seattle. And if Portage Bay happens to read this-I’d pay big bucks for the recipe.

After breakfast we walked down to Pikes Place Market. This wasn’t my first trip there, but I enjoyed it just as much as last year. I’m always blown away by the fresh produce and beautiful flowers.

For some reason no one in our group kissed a fish this time around so I’ll have to rehash my fish kissing pic from last years visit.

Next up we hit the expo. (yes this is going to take me a week to get to race day)

Those pancakes look Ah-Maze-Ing!!! The fish. Notsomuch. And honestly I LOVE you’re giving a full review – sometimes runners forget that there’s so much more than the race itself – it’s the ENTIRE experience that should be highlighted. I’ll take a fab “race experience” with a good course over a crappy “race experience” with an excellent course most days.

Wow – of all the breakfast places you could have ended up at in Seattle, you were directed to one of the best for sure. So glad your hotel folks didn’t steer you wrong! In fact, I just might have to go there now…it’s been a while!

Those… pancakes… look… so…. goood. I saw the picture before reading the text and I thought to myself “my gosh those look amazing, they look like something after it’s worth doing extra workout to burn the extra calories” but the fact they’re vegan topped everything. Will sure try them if I’m ever in Seattle. Quite a drive from San Diego tho :D .
